Dusk is an international contemporary art festival, whose theme is stones and their connection with the stars and the surrounding environment. Each artist performed based on this theme. this event had the participation of artists from Portugal, Spain, Iceland, Scotland and Nigeria.
DUSK is a festival that takes us back to prehistoric times, as stone was the starting point of our existence. In those ancient times there was nothing to illuminate us except the stars, there was no footprint of Man. It was nature in its splendor.
This festival is the union of all these factors, held in the heart of the Alentejo and Algarve. In Évora, namely in Montemor-o-Novo, at Herdade do Montado do Freixo do Meio. This place has a unique ecosystem, with more than 500 hectares of protected area, including an indigenous forest and an open-air Neolithic museum.
It is a nocturnal art event that creates a union between the stones and the stars that illuminate us in the surrounding space. It is an international festival with the participation of visual artists from Portugal, Spain, Alba (Scotland), Ísland (Iceland) and Naija (Nigeria). Their performances ranged from film screenings, debates, night walks, and other projects over the course of two nights. The festival was held on the night of the 18th of June until the summer solstice, on the 21st of June 2023 and presented a program curated by Nuno Sacramento and Inês Valle, where contemporary art was articulated with archaeological, geological, astronomical and local community.
On the 18th of June, in Évora, I had the opportunity to carry out a photo report on this part of the project. I immersed myself in an energy of complete peace and serenity. It is worth noting the incredible kindness of all the people in that group. The transmission of knowledge through their performances in which I was registering through the lens. I felt an immense peace, because I looked at the sky and could see the stars. Even though there was no communication to the outside world in that area, it became the main concentration factor for my work and for myself. It was a retreat that I haven't had in a long time, an inner peace that I haven't had in a long time. Grateful to everyone for this opportunity, for each moment, for each learning, and… grateful for the trust.
